Fitness Tip #5…….Is there such a thing as the “FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH?” by Eraldo Maglara Fitness Tip #5…….Is there such a thing as the “FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH?” by Eraldo Maglara(0)

I recently received a phone call the other day from a middle-aged person who was interested in getting some information about my personal training services. As I do with every person I talk to, I always try to give out as much information as possible so that they can have a better understanding of the great benefits of exercising. Here are just a few things that I was able to share:

1. Muscle Strength with aging decreases….with exercise it increases.

2. Muscle Endurance with aging decreases….with exercise it increases.

3. Body Fat with aging increases……with exercise it decreases.

4. Physical Function with aging decreases….with exercise increases.

Also, studies have shown, that a person (male or female) who maintains a regular exercise regimen through out their life (combined with a healthy diet)  can expect to increase their life expectancy anywhere from 5 to 10 years longer. And what about your heart? And your bones? Exercise and a cardiovascular program have also shown to strengthen your heart and build stronger bones. How about that for an incentive to incorporate exercise and a healthy diet in your everyday life???

So, Is there such a thing as the “Fountain of Youth?” I say the proof is in the Pudding.

Also, on another note, please stay tuned for a big announcement to be revealed right here on NJDISCOVER…you do not want to miss this!!

Until next time and remember” The more you learn and take care of your body…the better it will take care of you in the future.”

Fitness Tip #4 At what age can you start an exercise program? Fitness Tip #4 At what age can you start an exercise program?(0)

A year ago, a gave a speech at the local rotary club and a question was asked by one of the club members,  “At what age should you start an exercise program?”

Because I am a certified personal trainer through the NSCA (The National Strength & Conditioning Association), I follow their guidelines very closely. In general, when a trainer is designing and evaluating a resistance training program for any type of person, a few key factors must be kept in mind:

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO STAY HEALTHY IN THIS ECONOMY WITHOUT SPENDING A FORTUNE?

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that the current state of our economy is not what we had hoped for.

So, should that give us an excuse for not exercising? I don’t think so.
Believe it or not, even if money is a rare commodity these days, there are still plenty of things you can do to get in shape!

Here are four things you can do that will not require a major investment on your behalf:

1.  Your own body weight exercises like (Push ups, Chair dips, Crunches, Sit Ups, Squats, Lunges etc.). All these types of exercises can easily be done anywhere you can.

2.  Getting your heart pumping does not require any equipment at all. You can jog or walk in your neighborhood, local park or use your indoor staircase and go up and down a few times.

3.  Therapy Bands are a great way to get a good workout without investing a lot of money in bulky expensive equipment. Imagination here is the key. Any exercise that can be done with a dumbbell can definitely be done with a Band…so go for it!

4.  Stability Balls are a very popular trend at this moment and they are reasonably priced ($20-$25). Also, the majority of them come pre-packaged with an exercise DVD where personal trainer’s show you how to properly use the product.

Also, please do not forget to get clearance from your doctor before beginning any exercise program.

That’s all for now.   And remember,” Take care of your body today and it will take care of you tomorrow!”
